THE CURTAIN RISES AND A SMALL GIRL AND A
SMALL BOY, WEARING THAI NATIONAL DRESS, ARE STANDING
IN A PRETTY GARDEN WITH TREES AND FLOWERS.
THEY ARE WAVING THAI FLAGS THAT THEY THEN PUT IN A TREE.
AT THE SIDE OF THE STAGE STAND TWO NARRATORS WHO READ (OR PRETEND TO READ) FROM STORY BOOKS.

Somchai and Ying are in the same class and they want to have friends from all the Asean countries.

| SOMCHAI:

I bet you don't know all the Asean Countries do you? There are ten of them. |
| YING:

Let me try. They are Thailand. . . .

(SHE COUNTS ON HER FINGERS) . . . and Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei, Singapore and Indonesia.

Wow! Well done! How can we get to know children from each of them? |

|
I know. Let's ask Mr and Mrs Santa to help us. They can fly round all the countries and find us friends.
So instead of giving presents for Christmas, Mr and Mrs Santa bought friends for Ying and Somchai.

They arrived through the sky in the Santas sleigh pulled by a red nosed reindeer.
And later the Santas found other ways to deliver new friends to them.
(THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO SHOW SOVANN'S ARRIVAL.
BUT FOR EXAMPLE, A BOY PLAYING SANTA AND ANOTHER DRESSED AS A
REINDEER ARRIVE WITH A CUT OUT SLEIGH CARRYING SOVANN. SOVANN JUMPS OUT AND SANTA GIVES A MERRY WAVE AND
CONTINUES ON HIS WAY.
SOVANN IS WEARING CAMBODIAN NATIONAL DRESS AND WAVES A CAMBODIAN FLAG.

Somchai got four friends and Ying got five - one more, because she had been the one who knew all the countries.
For Somchai there was Sovann from Cambodia.
His name means 'like gold'.

NATIONAL DRESS) APPEAR WITH PARACHUTES. THEY TOO ARE WAVING THEIR FLAGS.
THEY KEEP BUMPING INTO EACH OTHER.

While this was happening Mrs Santa sent two girls down by parachute.
They were Chi from Vietnam and Angel from the Philippines.
They were quarrelling; because they kept bumping into each other.

(BUMPING INTO CHI) I don't believe you.
THEY NARROWLY MISS YING
They nearly landed on Ying's head. But Ying said

JOIN IN THE DANCE.

| He sailed right up the Chao Praya River into Bangkok.
He came in a boat pulled by Dolphins that the Santas had given him.
SOMCHAI, VERY EXCITED, RUNS TO GREET HIM.
RIO HAS THE INDONESIAN FLAG.
